Microsoft's rivals won a reprieve on Monday, when the software giant said it would split up its Teams and Office bundles following scrutiny from European regulators. Analysts at Mizuho Securities wrote in a note on Monday that "while customers believe Zoom is a superior platform vs. Teams" and other vendors, "the bundling of MS Teams to Office 365 has always been enticing for customers to consider Teams." Last year, Microsoft generated almost $53 billion in revenue from Office, including Teams, up about 14% from 2022. Months later, the European Commission disclosed a probe into Microsoft's Teams and Office bundling.

While I don't think AI is going to solve everything, I'm really excited for the role that AI is going to play in making work better. AI is really going to help people balance their workday. I think that's really going to help people clear their day and stop spending so much time on those more routine tasks that could just be automated. I think it's also going to give us an opportunity to think about productivity in a much more meaningful way. You have to really think about how you're structuring your day in order to maximize productivity.

Workers in Asia are spending the most time on "performative work" — in other words, focusing on appearing busy more than doing real, productive work. Japan (63%), Singapore (63%) and India (57%) were ranked lowest for percentage of time spent on productive or "real work," Slack said. According to Laney, employees' focus on appearing busy is "likely influenced" by the way leaders are measuring productivity. For example, 44% of Singapore employees — the highest globally — say their productivity has been affected by spending "too much time" in meetings and emails. "There is an opportunity for companies to explore new and different ways of working, such as … adopting asynchronous ways of working rather than meetings, to facilitate more effective collaboration at work," Laney said.

Arc is a buzzy web browser that sheds the traditional browser interface as we know it. Eight months ago, my browser tab hoarding was out of control. Finding an open tab was like playing hide and seek in the cluttered abyss of Chrome, each link harder to find than the last. Then came Arc, a new web browser recommended by Jason Spinell, manager of Slack's early-stage investment fund. If tidying guru Marie Kondo had a favorite web browser, it would be Arc.

The U.S. tech giant has racked up 2.2 billion euros ($2.5 billion) in EU antitrust fines in the previous decade for practices in breach of EU competition rules, including tying or bundling two or more products together. Teams, which Microsoft added to Office 365 in 2017 for free to eventually replace Skype for Business, soared in popularity during the pandemic especially after it offered video conferencing. Reuters reported earlier this month that the EU antitrust watchdog was set to open a probe after Microsoft declined to offer bigger price cuts on its Office without Teams. German rival alfaview, which last week filed a complaint similar to Slack's with the EU executive, welcomed the EU investigation. EU fines for antitrust violations can go as high as 10% of a company's global turnover.

Employees earning a salary over $150,000 actually prefer working from home, a McKinsey study found. Senior workers are more likely to have comfortable work setups at home as well as childcare duties. McKinsey's survey of 13,000 office workers in six countries published in July looks at how hybrid work has changed the way people work. 44% of senior workers said they would rather work from home; 50% of mid-level employees said the same, but only 6% of junior employees shared this sentiment. Senior employees tend to be more confident in their skills and might have a more comfortable remote working setup.

Slack's co-founder Cal Henderson shared his thoughts about remote work in an Insider interview. He said young people in some industries may struggle if they're not with colleagues in the office. Salesforce, the software company that owns Slack, recently mandated workers come to the office. It's a very different experience if your VP isn't there in the office with you as you work overnight on something." In regard to Musk's comments Henderson said: "Elon Musk isn't in the office every day because he's the CEO of three companies.

June 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday gave Salesforce Inc's (CRM.N) Slack Technologies another chance to avoid a lawsuit over the workplace communications software company's 2019 direct listing. A direct listing is an alternative to a traditional initial public offering. The registration statement was filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). That differs from an IPO, under which newly registered shares are offered to the public while existing shareholders are typically barred from selling their unregistered shares for months. Slack's direct listing released 118 million shares that were registered under its registration statement and 165 million pre-existing shares that were exempt from registration.

CEO Marc Benioff said the company's "performance culture" is fueling that profitability. Guidance for the company's adjusted operating margins for its current fiscal year, 2024, has been raised to 28%, CEO Marc Benioff said on Salesforce's first-quarter earnings call Wednesday. That is a significant stride towards the company's goal of exceeding 30% adjusted operating margins in the next two years, a goal Insider reported in February. Profit margins improved in the first quarter largely thanks to the company's restructuring plans, which included laying off 10% of its workforce and shedding office space. Both Benioff and chief operating officer Brian Milham touted the company's "performance culture" for driving its results in the first quarter.

This morning Salesforce announced Slack GPT, a generative AI chatbot integrated into the platform to help users summarize conversations and generate reports.
The logo for Slack is displayed on a trading post monitor at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), June 20, 2019 in New York City. Buzzy chatbot technology is coming to Slack in a new way: Slack GPT, an in-app tool that allows users to shorten and adjust message tone, summarize missed messages in channels, assist with writing, take notes on calls or "huddles," and more. For example, you might ask the chatbot to take note of everything that was said on a Slack group call. Slack GPT can also summarize the dozens of messages you've missed in a specific chat group while you were out of the office. Ali Rayl, Slack's senior vice president of product, told CNBC she estimates that the AI chatbot tools will be rolled out within the next year but declined to give more specifics on the features' rollout timeline.

Salesforce is giving its Slack workplace messaging app the ChatGPT boost that can speed up posting. Microsoft shook up its Bing search engine last month with an OpenAI-powered chatbot that transfixed users. The tool would help users write faster, review outlines of longer Slack chats, and mine channels for information, according to the company. Salesforce also said its AI tool called "Einstein GPT" will help clients use AI-generated content for customer service and marketing purposes. The company said that Slack users will have "granular controls" over access to data, and that ChatGPT's model won't learn from Slack data.
